JAPANESE
REGIMENTAL COLOURS
The information below is from an outstanding website called ‘Flags of the World, FOTW’
The Japanese Army infantry carried colours into battle in the Russo-Japanese War. The design was the 16-ray ‘rising sun’ with the sun disk at the centre and a white panel at the lower hoist bearing the name of the regiment in black kanji. The flagpole was black with a golden finial in the form of a three-sided chrysanthemum mon. Artillery standards were abolished in 1885.
